So I hear I’m a child abuser

Word on the CSGV street is that I’m a child abuser and I want to murder people.
So, I made a blog post right over here.  It’s pretty innocuous.  Right?  Apparently not.  It seems some people have no problem saying that I’m abusive and murderous.  Let’s break it down.
First, I’m apparently murderous.  In case the twitter link is removed, here’s a paste.
#UT gun rights activist tells us “I want them dead,” shares disturbing thoughts on parenting. #p2#Highered#politics http://fb.me/GUdYmmqw
Yep, sounds murderous to me!  What in the world was I thinking?  Let’s recap…  contextual information is WONDERFUL!
@AntiTango Guns make attempted crime more lethal, which is why their overall homicide rate is more than 3 times lower than U.S. #Highered
Immediately followed by me with:
@CSGV They sure do make things potentially more lethal! That’s exactly what I want if someone is battering down my door. I want them dead.
I stand by that, too.  Do I think it will happen?  No.  I do not.  I think I live in a pretty safe place.  Even safer, once we’re out of the apartment and into the house in a slightly different area.  However, just because I do not believe it will happen doesn’t mean there isn’t a once in a billion chance of it happening.  To quote someone long before me: “It’s better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.”  I do not believe that my home will burn down, but I have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
Now let’s look at their other retweet:
Bizarre rants from #UT gun rights activist: “I do NOT care how many goblins die in robberies.” #p2 #Highered #politics http://fb.me/UzyZIXFb
Not sure they understand what goblin means or they’re hoping the public does not.  For those not in the know, a goblin is NOT the good guy.  Goblins are those that wish to bring harm, up to and including death, to those that want to be left alone. Burglars, Rapists, and Home Invaders are all careers choices that goblins pursue.  Want to see the full post?
@CSGV I do NOT care how many goblins die in robberies. I do NOT care how many resort to suicide. I do care about innocent victims.
See that?  I still stand by that, too.  Notice I differentiate between Innocent Victims and Goblins.  Johnny Gangbanger that wants in my home at 2am is a goblin.  Suzie Homemaker that is minding her own business walking home from work is an “Innocent Victim.”  I truly understand that it is difficult for some to differentiate between the two terms, but there IS a difference.
Now that that business is out of the way, what’s this child abuse stuff?  I refer you to here.
ThirdPower has been following this as well because he’s a stand up guy and seems to me he looks out for people.  Unintentional sheepdog?  Maybe.  Now, here’s what I said in my post which is unmodified and still intact right here.
My kid’s learning discipline.  He’s an incredibly smart little punk!  He’s being a very finicky eater, lately.  Doesn’t want to eat squat.  We force him to at least taste (not necessarily eat) one of each item on his plate.  Tonight was different.  My wife worked pretty hard making some chicken and rice with mixed veggies mixed in.  I cut a small piece of chicken and shoved it into his mouth.  Spit it back out so I pushed it back in.  After a dozen times, he got a super sad, big pouty lip on his face, and started chewing.  I will admit it, I was doggone mad.  He swallowed it a few seconds later.  Starting with that, our new rule with him eating is that he WILL eat at least one single bite of each item on his plate.  He won’t have to eat the entire thing, but he WILL take a bite, chew, and swallow one of each.
What did THEY post?
Now, that sounds a little different.  Not sure where I said he cried.  “forcing him to eat it as he cried.” So a parent that puts a piece of food the size of 2 peas into his kid’s mouth until he stops spitting it out is abusive.  Repetitive and incredibly annoying, but abusive?  Got me there, better call CPS before I make him eat some olives.  Of course within an hour after posting the original (I think it was that fast, could have been longer), they swapped it out with this replacement.
Now the lies are gone, but apparently this is ‘better’?  Yep, I was mad.  So mad that I made a blog post about it.  Remember, folks.  Don’t let your kids give you pouty lips or it’s child abuse!
Oh, and to rub a little salt in…  I’m getting a lot more referrals from Days of our Trailers than I am from CSGV’s Facebook page which I am not going to link to.

  1. I’m not surprised; that bunch is no stranger to lying and ad hominem attacks. The only thing worse than their ethics is their ignorance on the subject of firearms, firearm owners and the law.

  4. When I read about this, it just makes me sick the kind of people we’re dealing with. I’ve had anti-gunners make mocking remarks about my own children, so I understand what you’re facing.

The good thing is … they fabricated the whole thing. Jack asses (worst word I try to use online).

  5. I know you were joking about calling Child Protective Services, but on the exhortation of some of their readers, it would appear as though CSGV is doing just that. Because, y’know, ensuring your child eats is abusive behavior… duh.

*shakes head* In the end, this is a pretty standard tactic for a desperate organization looking to score any kinds of points it can – they know they cannot win the “rights” argument, so it is time to attack those people who support it. Unfortunately, being the full-fledged scumbags they are, they will not attack you outright, but will instead rely on easily-exploitable, hard-to-fight angles.

    Like I said, desperate.
