I got these before Halloween last year, but had to paint the combat gnomes.  The zombie gnomes were prepainted.  The combat gnomes were plain and needed to be painted.  I did this with acrylic paints from a local craft store.  All zombie gnomes are from DougFX and all combat gnomes are from Thorsson.

SayUncle reminded me of this and linked to a new combat gnome.  That means there are 2 more combat gnomes I need  I’ve already got the Gnome with a Grenade, but it’s still unpainted.  I didn’t get it until after Halloween.  I still need the Rocket Launcher combat gnome and the one Uncle linked to.

Minor Edit:  The combat gnomes are from the same artist as the one featured in SayUncle’s article above.  The zombie gnomes are a different artist.

The gun community didn’t take it lightly.  The internet also never forgets.

We’re fiercely loyal.  We like to stick up for our friends and help them out when they’re down and being kicked.  Fast forward 7 months.  TODAY!  RomeoTangoBravo helped a fellow gun nut out.  This gun nut was interested in winning a contest.  To win it, he was asking to help his friend out by clicking ‘Like’ on his entry.

Too bad his friend is from GunMart.

I apologize, but I did not think it would be deleted, so I didn’t get a screenshot of it.  It didn’t take long for it to be deleted.  I wasn’t sure what to say.  No reasoning behind it, but my comment was not deleted.  The rest of the comments remained, however.  They’re below.

At first thought, I figured he was just trying to save face.  Now, I’m going to give RomeoTangoBravo the benefit of the doubt.  It looks like he’s agreeing with the sentiment that GunMart doesn’t deserve the help he was giving him.  I hope that is true since I’ve enjoyed the RTB blog in the past!

Weer’d Beard, a fellow beardo and gunnie, asked his audience to participate in the vigil.  He also asked that their candles be displayed with tools that REALLY prevent crime.  Their handguns.

Barron and Joe took this to a whole new level with video.  I would like to point out that Barron’s video has been on the internet for 2 days.  3,791 views in 2 days.  Hey, Joyce Foundation.  You getting your money’s worth?  More than double the views in 2 days compared to over 3 weeks that the Bradys have had.

These guys are making sure the people that died last year on January 8th did not die in vein.  Candles will not prevent violence…

…or will they?

Candles now have a new power.  Candles CAN prevent violent crime.

Display a candle.  Mine is within full view of our front picture window.  Mine just has a friend.  Perhaps with enough momentum, people will recognize the candle as meaning that with the candle comes the gun.

Maybe they’ll think twice, not because they’ll feel bad, but because they have a sense of self-preservation.  It might be just a .380, but I’ve never heard someone say it was ‘just a .380′ who was standing on the business end.

Let’s light em up so perhaps we won’t have to ‘light em up.’  Health and long life.  Stay armed and stay safe!

I don’t follow the whole ‘I’m Anonymous’ thing since I don’t enjoy 4chan, but the rest of it I think is very thought provoking.

It’s my opinion that HR1540 can bring no good to our country.  None at all.  What’s the benefit that is supposed to come of it?

It sets a disgusting (and illegal) precedent.  Combined with SOPA and PROTECT-IP, we’re in for an ugly lesson.

Lance Corporal James M Schmidt

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.
I had come down the chimney, with presents to give
and to see just who in this home did live

As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.

With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sobering thought soon came to my mind.
For this house was different, unlike any I’d seen.
This was the home of a U.S. Marine.

I’d heard stories about them, I had to see more,
so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home.

He seemed so gentle, his face so serene,
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine.
Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?

His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan.
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night,
owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.

Soon around the Nation, the children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
because of Marines like this one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.

He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
“Santa, don’t cry, this life is my choice
I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more.
My life is my God, my country, my Corps.”

With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep,
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.

I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night’s chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
and covered this Marine from his toes to his head.
Then I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold,
with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside.

I didn’t want to leave him so quiet in the night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure,
said “Carry on, Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all secure.”
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight.

Leatherneck Magazine:
“Merry Christmas, My Friend,” has been a holiday favorite among ‘leatherneckphiles’ for nearly the time it takes to complete a Marine Corps career. Few, however, know who wrote it and when. Former Corporal James M. Schmidt, stationed at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., pounded it out over 17 years ago on a typewriter while awaiting the commanding officer’s Christmas holiday decorations inspection…while other leathernecks strung lights for the Barracks’ annual Christmas decoration contest, Schmidt contributed his poem to his section.”

Mr. Schmidt’s own words:
“The true story is that while a Lance Corporal serving as Battalion Counter Sniper at the Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington, D.C., under Commandant P.X. Kelly and Battalion Commander D.J. Myers (in 1986), I wrote this poem to hang on the door of the gym in the BEQ. When Colonel Myers came upon it, he read it and immediately had copies sent to each department at the Barracks and promptly dismissed the entire Battalion early for Christmas leave. The poem was placed that day in the Marine Corps Gazette, distributed worldwide and later submitted to Leatherneck Magazine.”

I post this every year.  I posted it last year and I’ll post it again next year.  I’ll be spending my Christmas with my family and I’ll be glad for it.  Many others aren’t so lucky.
